Preheat oven to 195C / 385F
Combine all dry ingredients and all wet ingredients separately
Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, and use a rubber spatula or spoon to combine fully
Lightly flour work surface, and with floured hands divide dough into two roughly shaped balls
Gently flatten each ball into a disk, about 3/4 inch thick
Sprinkle generously with course sugar, firmly pressing it into the dough
Carefully transfer scones, one at a time, to baking sheet lined with parchment
Bake for 18 minutes (checking after 15 minutes) or until golden brown
Cool on rack, but serve warm
